Glossary of Lasik Surgery Technology Terms
LASIK
Laser-Assisted Intrastromal Keratomeleusis, or LASIK, is the most advanced refractive surgical technique. During the LASIK surgery procedure, an out layer of the cornea is lifted up to form a flap and the underlying corneal tissue is then reshaped by use of a laser. This flap is self-sealing and requires no stitches in order to heal. The entire procedure takes less than ten minutes per eye and many people are able to see results instantly. Advancements LASIK technology now offers the ability to correct for multiple conditions such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.
